I think that layer masks are beneficial because it makes it easier to edit a photo, by using black or white paint you can show what you are adding or removing. It allows you to edit the amount you want, and you can see what you are editing.
Because you don’t have to go back to the other image and reselect a different portion of the picture w/ the marquis tool. You can change how much you see and don’t see w/ the black and white paint w/out having to go back to the other image.
So that you can pick what parts you want and that way you don’t have to keep going back and forth or delete layers. It is easier to correct what you what like the size and visibilty of the image you are wanting to use. It just makes it easier.
It is beneficial to use layer masks to edit out part of your image so that you can make changes to what you edit without going back and forth between images. If it is on a mask you can directly add or subtract parts from the picture you are editing.
So that you don’t have to worry about messing up the whole picture and then having to restart a whole new picture. You can easily just erase/refill what you want or don’t want.
